The Russian army attacked the territory of the Bilenkivska Correctional Colony using four guided aerial bombs. The death toll has risen to 17, the press service of the Ministry of Justice reports.

Due to the strike, the facility's dining hall was completely destroyed, while the administrative headquarters and the quarantine unit suffered significant damage. Seventeen prisoners were killed in the attack, and another 42 were injured.

"Those seriously wounded have been hospitalized at the Ministry of Health facilities. Around 40 others sustained injuries of varying severity, and one staff member of the facility suffered minor injuries (shrapnel wounds to the face)," the Ministry of Justice stated.

Currently, about 50 officers from the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine have been deployed to maintain order at the facility. All those injured have received medical assistance and are under observation in the medical unit, duty section, and other departments of the institution.

The facility’s perimeter was not damaged, and there is no threat of escape.

"This strike once again demonstrates a blatant violation of international humanitarian law by the Russian armed forces. Shelling of civilian infrastructure, including penitentiary facilities, is considered a war crime," the Ukrainian ministry stated.
