Russian forces attacked the Kherson Thermal Power Plant (TPP) again on the morning of January 2. There were at least four strikes on the station’s territory, and due to the ongoing attacks, the TPP can no longer operate in its usual mode, according to a statement from Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz of Ukraine (Ukraine's largest state-owned national oil and gas company).

According to Serhii Koretskyi, the Kherson TPP was attacked over two days with artillery and drones. More than 10 targeted strikes on the facility’s territory were recorded during that time, with the latest attack occurring on the morning of January 2, when there were at least four strikes.

"Our specialists are working on-site as much as possible: assessing the extent of the damage and planning further actions. For us, it is essential to protect people and respond quickly even under such conditions," Koretskyi said.

He also noted that due to the constant attacks by Russia, the Kherson TPP can no longer operate in its normal mode. In coordination with local authorities, measures are being taken to ensure residents of Kherson are provided with heat as quickly as possible.

"In particular, we have already delivered a thousand electric heaters to residents. We will also provide an additional 500 heaters with gas cylinders. Additionally, we have purchased another thousand of the same heaters and are awaiting delivery to hand over to the city," Koretskyi assured.

On December 30, the Kherson City Military Administration confirmed that the Russian army attacks the TPP almost daily, making it currently impossible to restore its operation. Local authorities are seeking alternative heating options for residents after a series of enemy strikes on the facility.

On December 3, Naftogaz reported that Russian terrorists carried out another targeted attack on the Kherson TPP. As a result of the attack, the station was practically destroyed and ceased operation. On December 6, Russian forces fired approximately 100 additional shells at the Kherson TPP.

On December 17, the Russian army struck the Kherson TPP again. This forced authorities to postpone work to repair previous damage. Another heavy attack occurred on December 28, causing significant destruction to the infrastructure. As of now, the Kherson TPP is effectively non-functional.
