Russia heavily strikes Kyiv, killing one and hitting gas stations, businesses, and store

On the morning of September 23, Kyiv came under a massive Russian drone attack: gas stations, a business center, a store, and transportation infrastructure were hit. There are fatalities and injuries.

RBC-Ukraine has compiled everything known about the consequences of today's Russian attack on Kyiv.

Russian attack has resulted in one fatality and several injuries

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, eight people were injured in the Russian attack. One of the injured, who was hospitalized in critical condition, died in the hospital.

As of 10 a.m. Kyiv time, four people were being treated in city hospitals. Two are in critical condition.

Strikes were recorded in several districts of the capital at once:

In the Holosiivskyi district, a Russian drone struck a gas station, causing storage facilities to catch fire; later, Russian drones fell on a four-story business center and the roof of a non-residential building, while another struck a transportation facility.
In the Solomianskyi district, Russian drone debris fell between residential buildings; a transportation company caught fire; a drone struck a store building and a nine-story non-residential structure at the fourth-floor level.
In the Darnitskyi district, a gas station and a transportation infrastructure facility were damaged, and one person was injured.

Ukrnafta gas station destroyed

One of the strikes hit a gas station belonging to the Ukrnafta network in the Holosiivskyi district. Almost nothing remains of the building.

"Another strike on UKRNAFTA's civilian infrastructure. This is already the sixth in recent weeks," writes Bohdan Kukura, chairman of the board of JSC Ukrnafta.

"Most importantly, no one was injured—the staff was in a shelter. Rescue workers and police are already on the scene," he adds.

The extent of the damage will be assessed once the emergency services have completed their work. "We will restore the damaged facilities to ensure people have fuel," Kukura assures.

Russia attacks railroad in Kyiv

Kyiv's railroad infrastructure has also come under attack. This was reported by Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, chairman of the board of Ukrainian Railways.

"One of our railroad workers sustained shrapnel wounds while returning home from his shift. He is in the hospital, and our people are there with him. He is receiving all necessary medical care," he wrote.

Due to repeated threats, staff had to be evacuated to shelters, which affected the train schedule. Pertsovskyi urged passengers to monitor train statuses online.

"If you're delayed for a train due to security concerns—it's no problem. We'll refund 100% of the cost, and you can take the next train," he assures.

Kyiv Central Railway Station has not been damaged, according to Ukrainian Railways. Under a yellow alert, passengers may board and disembark only from the station's underground areas and at Darnytsia Station.

Russian attack has been ongoing in several waves. Air raid alerts were sounded repeatedly throughout the night and this morning.

Pertsovskyi reminds everyone that even at a yellow alert level, people should immediately seek shelter. It is dangerous to remain near railway facilities—you must leave them regardless of the alert level.

Consequences of Russian strikes on Kyiv region

The Kyiv region has been under Russian attack since last night. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reports on the consequences of the Russian strike.

"In the Bucha district, a production and warehouse building was damaged. At another location, rescue workers extinguished a fire involving a car and a metal trailer on the grounds of a municipal enterprise," the statement reads.

An administrative building was also damaged. Rescue workers are putting out a fire at a warehouse.

In September 2026, Russian drones attacked facilities belonging to the Ukrnafta network in Kyiv for the sixth time. Previous strikes had also completely or partially destroyed the company's gas stations.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Ukraine had a chance to end the war before winter—but this requires political will from the US and the delivery of missiles for the Patriot systems.
