Russia fortifying its border with NATO country, reason named

Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced the construction of fortifications in border regions. He explained that Vladimir Putin had ordered the strengthening of Russia’s borders, according to Russian media.
According to Medvedev, all sorts of walls and barriers are being built along the Russian-Finnish border, so Russia must increase the reliability of its border defenses.
He argued that Russia should prepare for unfriendly acts from Finland, which recently became a NATO member.
Medvedev also drew attention to the growing military activity near Russia’s borders, mentioning the Baltic states, Poland, and Norway.
How Finland is defending itself from Russia
Meanwhile, Finland has been forced to strengthen its defenses due to the Russian threat. The Finnish government plans to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP by 2029, which means an additional €1.5–2 billion annually. These funds will go to the army, eastern border security, and air defense systems.
Recently, satellite images confirmed that Russia is boosting its military presence near the Finnish border. Finland’s military intelligence believes that Moscow may shift more resources northward once the high-intensity phase of the war in Ukraine ends.
Back in 2022, the Finnish parliament approved a law on constructing a high wall along the Russian border.
