On the night of February 8, Russia launched 139 drones at Ukraine. Air defense shot down less than half of them, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

On the night of February 8, the enemy launched 139 Shahed-type strike UAVs and various types of imitation drones from the following directions: Kursk, Orel, Millerovo, Bryansk, and Shatalovo, according to the report.

How air defense responded

The airstrike was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, mobile fire groups of the Air Force, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

"As of 09:00, 67 Shahed-type strike UAVs and drones of other types have been confirmed as shot down," the military added.

Air defense operated in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, and Odesa regions.

Additionally, 71 enemy imitation drones were lost due to locational factors.

Russian shelling of Ukraine

The Russian forces attack Ukraine with drones every night, often combining them with missile strikes for coordinated assaults.

A drone attack on Kyiv was reported shortly after midnight on February 8, with air defense in operation in the capital.

By the morning, it became known that Russian occupiers had also attacked Sumy with drones. One of the drones struck a private house, causing a fire.
