Russia fired 1,000 missiles and 2,800 drones at Ukraine since 2024 beginning - Ambassador to UN
Russia has fired nearly 1,000 missiles, about 2,800 attack drones, and nearly 7,000 guided aerial bombs at Ukraine. Most of the Russian occupiers' targets were civilians, according to Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya.
"The total explosive power of combined air strikes on Ukraine for this period exceeds 9 kilotons. Only 3% of Russian missiles, drones and guided bombs hit military targets, while 97% hit civilian infrastructure," he says.
According to Kyslytsya, Russia has deliberately targeted critical energy infrastructure, in particular electricity generation. After the March attacks, 80% of thermal power was destroyed. Hydroelectric power plants also suffered serious damage.
Ukraine's representative to the UN reminded of the constant shelling of Kharkiv. According to him, the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine confirmed that at least 604 civilians were killed or injured in Ukraine last month, which is 20% more than in February. Among the wounded and killed in March due to Russian attacks were 57 Ukrainian children.
Kyslytsya notes that even if the regimes of dictators Putin and Hitler "are not identical twins, they have the same toxic DNA."
"Eighty years ago, almost a decade spent on appeasement resulted in a world war. The attempts to appease the new aggressor that we observed from 2014 to 2022 resulted in a full-scale war on the European continent. The lessons of history must be learned. If the Security Council had existed during WWII, would its members have sat at the same table with the Ribbentrops while the Nazis were destroying European cities and sending thousands of people to gas chambers? And yet we now sit with modern reincarnations of the Ribbentrops," he says.
Another massive Russian attack on Ukraine
On the night of April 11, Russian invaders attacked Ukraine once again. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that the occupiers used 42 missiles of various types and 40 drones. Some of the targets were shot down by air defense.
Russia attacked Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhia regions. The Russians attacked critical infrastructure facilities and damaged the power grid.
In particular, the attack completely destroyed the Trypillia thermal power plant near Kyiv, and Centrenergo lost 100% of its generation.
