Russia deploys large number of new units near Mariupol
Russian occupiers have amassed a significant number of units near Mariupol, sporting a new "identifying marker," according to Mariupol mayor's advisor, Petro Andriushchenko.
"We're noticing a large number of new units in the Mangush part of the Mariupol district. They are spread across various populated areas," he said.
According to the official, their main distinction lies in new markings, both on trucks and small armored vehicles.
"A diamond - two Vs and a flipped V in a square. Units of motorized infantry direction," Andriushchenko said.
Situation in Mariupol
Russian forces seized Mariupol in the Donetsk region, situated on the shores of the Sea of Azov, during the massive invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Meanwhile, explosions are constantly heard in the city, which are the result of the occupiers' base locations being attacked.
Besides, Mariupol and its surrounding areas have become a sort of hub for the transfer of Russian equipment and manpower to the frontlines, similar to Dzhankoi in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Unusual Russian activity was observed in the Mariupol region in November 2023. The enemy was seen moving fuel trucks closer to the front and intensively preparing stormtroopers.
