Russia deploys Kalibr missile carrier to Black Sea amid potential strike capacity
As of 6:00 AM on October 16 (Kyiv time), two Russian vessels are in the Black Sea, one of which is a missile carrier capable of launching up to four Kalibr missiles, according to the morning report of the Ukrainian Navy.
No Russian vessels are present in the Azov Sea today, which is consistent with previous days.
In the Mediterranean Sea, three vessels have been spotted, two of which are carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles with a total launch capacity of up to 12 missiles.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, over the past day, in the interest of Russia, the following vessels passed through the Kerch Strait:
- to the Black Sea: 10 vessels, 3 of which continued toward the Bosporus Strait;
- to the Sea of Azov: 8 vessels, 3 of which were coming from the Bosporus Strait.
Military officials emphasized that Russia continues to violate the 1974 International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) by disabling Automatic Identification Systems (AIS).
It is worth noting that Dmytro Pletenchuk, the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, recently stated that the Russian fleet can no longer significantly impact the course of combat operations in Ukraine.
