Russia cynically admits attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure at Christmas
Russia made a statement about the massive shelling of Ukraine on Christmas, December 25. Moscow cynically admitted that the target was the Ukrainian energy system, Russia's Ministry of Defense reports.
In particular, the Russian side stated that its forces used "high-precision, long-range weapons and strike drones" to attack Ukraine's energy facilities.
The justification offered was that these energy sites allegedly support the operation of Ukraine's military-industrial complex.
"The objective of the strike was achieved. All designated targets were hit," the statement by Russia's Ministry of Defense says cynically.
Shelling of Ukraine's energy sector
On Christmas, December 25, Russian troops launched a new massive strike on Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched 78 missiles and 106 drones. Air defense forces destroyed 59 missiles and 54 drones. Another 52 enemy drones did not reach their targets.
The attack caused damage to the power system. Ukraine has introduced power outage schedules. According to Ukrenergo (state-owned electricity transmission system operator - ed.), the schedules will be in effect until the end of the day. Up to three shifts will be turned off for household consumers at the same time.
