Russia will soon be able to launch ballistic missiles with a range of up to 5,000 kilometers. Moscow will be able to strike any city in Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says in an interview with BFMTV.
"It is true that Russia has very powerful ballistic missiles, and that they have, or will soon have, the capability to launch missiles up to 5,000 km. It is only a matter of time," the head of state emphasizes.
According to the President, Russia has missiles capable of striking any European city.
"That is why Europe needs its own missile defense system," Zelenskyy notes.
He also speaks about the development of a new European missile defense system. In particular, Ukraine is already testing new air defense and missile defense systems. Eight European countries are involved in the project.
Zelenskyy notes that if the tests are successful, the new system could be deployed as early as this year. It is expected to be less expensive than the Patriot system while providing reliable protection for both Ukraine and all of Europe.
On July 13, the leaders of Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom signed a declaration establishing the Integrated Missile Defense Coalition.
The document states that the initiative was launched in response to the growing threat of ballistic missile use. The coalition aims to create an integrated missile defense architecture that will complement existing national and European defense systems.
Recently, the Ukrainian company Fire Point unveiled the FP-7.x anti-ballistic missiles, which are being developed for the advanced Freyja air defense system.
In addition, the company presented the Freyja concept as a pan-European anti-ballistic shield that would be jointly owned by partner nations.
