The names of 80,973 Russian soldiers who were killed on the frontline in Ukraine since February 2022 have been identified, most of them being volunteers, reports Meduza.

More than half of the deceased (52% of the total losses) were not affiliated with the Russian Armed Forces at the time of the large-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to the report, this category includes individuals who signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense after the war began.

Rapid increase in losses among volunteers

The compilers of the lists note that the rapid increase in losses among volunteer soldiers continues.

"Their share of the overall confirmed losses now stands at 22 percent... For comparison, in November 2023, volunteers accounted for just 14 percent of total confirmed losses among," the authors specify. They add that many volunteers die within two to four weeks after being sent to the frontlines.

Decline in losses among convicts recruited from prisons

Meanwhile, the proportion of losses among convicts recruited from prisons has been declining.

In November 2023, this group accounted for 26% of all losses, compared to 18% now. Units composed of prisoners remain at the forefront, bearing a significant share of combat responsibilities.

Russian losses in Ukraine

On November 28, Ukrainian forces eliminated 2,030 militants in a single day - a record-high daily figure.

Over the week of November 17-24, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) neutralized nearly 10,000 troops and destroyed more than 200 artillery systems.

Between November 10 and 17, the AFU eliminated 11,990 troops and brought down 355 drones.
