Russia conducts rotation in Black Sea. There's currently only one submarine there - Ukrainian Navy
A rotation of Russian ships has occurred in the Black Sea. Currently, one submarine is on duty, but the Russian army rarely deploys it, according to Dmytro Pletenchuk, spokesperson for the Ukrainian Navy.
"Regarding the Black Sea, there has been a rotation. The submarine that was previously in the Black Sea has returned to its base in Novorossiysk, and it has been replaced by a similar submarine of the same 636 project, which is now on duty. So, there is currently one such submarine in the Black Sea," Pletenchuk said.
He noted that this submarine is more on combat duty rather than being actively used.
"Use (of the submarine) is currently very rare and, as we see, extremely ineffective," the spokesperson added.
Pletenchuk also mentioned that there are no observable threats from the Azov Sea.
He explained that after several successful strikes around that area, the Russian forces drew the appropriate conclusions and essentially left the area.
"These conclusions are based on the fact that, for example, the Navy managed to destroy drone storage facilities in Yeisk, hit a ferry in the port of Kavkaz, and other components of the Defense Forces are also involved in similar attacks. Therefore, the Azov Sea is essentially freed from the Russians, so to speak, in terms of the naval component. Unfortunately, the coastline still remains under Russian occupation," the Navy spokesperson added.
Ukrainian Armed Forces strikes on the Russian Black Sea fleet
Earlier, we reported that on August 2, the Ukrainian Armed Forces sank the Russian submarine Rostov-on-Don of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in the port of temporarily occupied Sevastopol.
According to Defence Express analysts, the destruction of the submarine Rostov-on-Don indicates that Russian forces will be unable to repair their submarines in the Black Sea. Experts note that the sinking of the Rostov will incapacitate an additional four Russian submarines.
