Russia has come up with a cynical justification for its massive strike on Ukraine, claiming it was supposedly "responding" to terrorist attacks.

This was stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense, according to Russian media.

"In response to Ukraine's terrorist attacks on civilian facilities on the territory of Russia, a massive strike was carried out overnight by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," the ministry claimed.

According to the agency, the strikes were carried out with long-range, high-precision air- and ground-launched weapons, including Kinzhal air-launched hypersonic missiles and long-range drones, targeting defense industry facilities, energy infrastructure, and port facilities that Russia links to use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

"The goals of the strike have been achieved. All designated targets were hit," the ministry said cynically.

Shelling of Ukraine on December 6

Overnight on December 6, the Russian Federation launched a massive attack on the territory of Ukraine, using missiles and strike drones.

Fastiv suffered the most severe damage: railway facilities were hit, forcing Ukrzaliznytsia to urgently reroute passenger trains. Explosions were also recorded at the city's railway station. In Novi Petrivtsi, near the capital, large fires broke out. Three people were injured in Kyiv region as a result of the attacks.

Cruise missile strikes also targeted the western regions of the country, prompting Polish military aircraft to step up operations in the country's airspace.

In addition, attacks on energy infrastructure in several regions led to power outages in six regions of Ukraine.
