Russia used the media platform Red to promote its propaganda in Germany and stir public discontent, Reuters reports.

According to an unnamed spokesperson for Germany's Foreign Ministry, Red presents itself as a "revolutionary platform for independent journalists." However, it has been found to have close ties to the Russian state media outlet RT.

"Today we can confirm that Red is being used by Russia specifically to manipulate information," the spokesperson added.

As Reuters explains, Red is owned by the Turkish media company AFA Medya, which — along with its founder Huseyin Dogru — is under sanctions as part of the broader measures against Russia. The platform has been accused of "undermining the democratic political process" in Germany. Following the imposition of sanctions, Red announced in May that it would shut down operations.

Russian propaganda

During its full-scale war, Russia has been actively conducting propaganda campaigns across the West, using media outlets, social networks, lobbyists, and proxy organizations. The core messages include discrediting Ukraine, undermining trust in Western institutions, spreading narratives aimed at weakening support for Kyiv, and promoting conspiracy theories.

In late December 2024, Telegram began blocking Russian state propaganda channels within the European Union (EU).

Meanwhile, Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR) uncovered another group of athletes, coaches, and officials involved in information and psychological operations against Ukraine.
