Russia attempts to block Ukraine's participation in UN Security Council meeting - Ukrainian Foreign Minister
Russia, which currently holds the presidency of the UN Security Council, tried to block Ukraine's participation in a meeting initiated in connection with the massive missile attack on July 8, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba.
"When we initiated the process of convening this session, the first thing Russia attempted to do was abuse its right to preside and tried to block Ukraine's participation in the meeting in connection with the shelling of Ukraine. This attempt speaks for itself. We successfully overcame it," Kuleba said.
According to him, the UN Security Council session is important so that the "Okhmadyt story resonates powerfully worldwide" and the "governments of all countries hear the positions expressed at the meeting."
"I have no doubt that Russia will today lie and claim at the Security Council that it wasn't them, as usual. It's important for the world to hear this lie too, because Ukraine has irrefutable evidence that it was Russia," the Minister noted.
Kuleba also added that the UN Security Council meeting will help mobilize support for Ukraine and address the restoration of Okhmadyt, among other issues, including in the context of the Ukrainian peace formula.
UN Security Council meeting
On Tuesday, July 9, the UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting focused on the Russian missile attack on Ukraine on July 8, particularly the attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital in Kyiv.
In addition to Ukraine, the meeting was called for by the United Kingdom, France, Ecuador, Slovenia, and the United States.
Prior to this, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Ukraine would initiate an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council due to Russia's missile attack.
