Ukraine and Russia are not ready to conclude a peace agreement, despite the active diplomacy of US President Donald Trump, according to US Vice President JD Vance.

According to JD Vance, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues despite months of negotiations because neither side is willing to reach a peace agreement.

"As much as energetic diplomacy from the president of the United States can get people to the one-yard line, eventually you have to have the two parties who are willing to cut a deal," he said.

"And right now, for all of our work, and we're going to keep on working at it, the Russians and the Ukrainians are just not at the point where they can make a deal," JD Vance added.

However, in his opinion, a peaceful settlement is still possible, but it will require a lot more work.

"I think there's a fundamental misalignment of expectations, where the Russians tend to think that they're doing better on the battlefield than they actually are," he said.

In his view, this is what has made it difficult to reach an agreement over the past few months, despite some progress.

Trump and peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said that after the peace agreement on Gaza, he intends to end Russia's war against Ukraine.

According to him, it would be good to conclude a peace treaty with Iran, but he noted that before that, it is necessary to deal with Russia.

During a speech in the Knesset on October 13, Trump admitted that he thought the war in Ukraine would be easy to resolve — much easier than he did with Israel.
