Russia allows Turkish ombudsman to visit Ukrainian POW detention sites
Russia has agreed to allow Turkish Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç to visit the locations where Ukrainian prisoners of war are held. The exact date of the visit has not yet been determined, according to Ukraine's Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets.
Lubinets noted that his representative, Yuriy Kovbasa, participated in a meeting with the families of Ukrainian prisoners of war.
During the meeting, Kovbasa emphasized that Russia continues to violate the Geneva Conventions, as evidenced by the condition in which Ukrainian defenders return home after captivity.
"However, it has finally been announced that Russia has agreed to the visit of Türkiye's Chief Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç, who, like in Ukraine, will visit the locations where prisoners of war are held. The date of his visit remains unknown," Lubinets wrote.
Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia
In April, Lubinets stated that Russia was discussing the possibility of allowing Turkish Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç access to Ukrainian prisoners of war.
Additionally, recently, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha mentioned that one of the countries is ready to act as a patron state to help Ukrainians in Russian captivity.
The Foreign Minister did not specify which country he was referring to.
