The US has submitted a "historic" document regarding Ukraine to the UN General Assembly. Trump believes that a "simple resolution" could end the war, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's statement from the State Department.

According to Rubio, US President Donald Trump is determined to end the Russian-Ukrainian war and find a solution that "leads to a lasting peace, not just a temporary pause."

"The United States has proposed a simple, historic resolution in the United Nations that we urge all member states to support in order to chart a path to peace," he stated.

The US Secretary of State emphasized that this resolution aligns with Trump's view that the UN must return to its foundational goal, as enshrined in the UN Charter, of maintaining international peace and security, particularly through the peaceful resolution of disputes.

"If the United Nations is truly committed to its original purpose, we must acknowledge that while challenges may arise, the goal of lasting peace remains achievable. Through support of this resolution, we affirm that this conflict is awful, that the UN can help end it, and that peace is possible," Rubio asserted.

He added that the US believes the time has come to commit to ending the war.

"This is our opportunity to build real momentum toward peace. We urge all UN member states to join the United States in this solemn pursuit," Rubio concluded.

US resolution on Ukraine

As reported, the US has proposed its own draft resolution to the UN to mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The document calls for an end to the war and the establishment of a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
