In Saudi Arabia, the US delegation recently discussed with Russian representatives the possibility of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio says this depends on progress in ending the Russia-Ukraine war, reports Reuters.

.According to Rubio, the Trump-Putin meeting "will largely depend on whether we can make any progress on ending the war in Ukraine."

Rubio said he discussed the possibility of such a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov last Tuesday in Saudi Arabia.

"There isn't going to be a meeting until we know what the meeting is going to be about," the US Secretary of State conveyed to Russia's Foreign Minister and other members of the Moscow delegation.

"I think when that meeting happens will largely depend on whether we can make any progress on ending the war in Ukraine," Rubio told journalist Catherine Herridge in an interview.

Rubio also believes that such a meeting should be "something that seals the deal."

On February 11, US President Donald Trump stated that he would "likely" meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin by the end of February.

Previously, the American President said he had spoken with the Kremlin leader by phone, discussing his efforts to speed up the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Additionally, Trump previously commented on the results of the meetings between the US and Russian delegations in Saudi Arabia. According to him, the Russian side allegedly "performed well" and supposedly wanted to end the war.
