The Royal Mail has released stamps featuring the band Spice Girls

The Spice Girls have been honored with a set of stamps by the Royal Mail to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the British group's formation. This marks the first time the postal service has dedicated an entire stamp collection to a female pop group.

The 10 main stamps feature images from the band's performance at the 1997 Brit Awards ceremony, including Jerry Halliwell's iconic dress made from a tea towel.

Another collection includes portraits taken on the set of the 1997 film Spice World. Fans of the group also have the opportunity to purchase an envelope with the members' images, a small prestige stamp book, a postcard, and even a cover.

Spice Girls was formed in 1994 by father and son duo Bob and Chris Herbert, aiming to create a female group to rival the boy bands that dominated the music charts at the time.

The band members are:

  • Victoria Beckham
  • Geri Halliwell
  • Melanie Brown
  • Emma Bunton Melanie Chisholm

Each of them has moved on to their own established lives since their breakup around 2001 but reunited for live tours in 2007 and 2019.

The information accompanying the stamps states that they led their own charge to chart dominance at a time when female groups were not considered commercially viable. Their infectious pop sound and bold philosophy of Girl Power changed the face of music and inspired an entire generation of artists.

The average price of the stamps ranges from £7 to almost £200. All stamps will be available for purchase in various collector's editions starting on January 11.
