Romanian military divers "neutralized" a Ukrainian Sea Baby naval drone that was drifting in the Black Sea, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

According to the Ministry of Defense, an unknown object was spotted approximately 36 nautical miles (about 66 kilometers) from the city of Constanța in the Black Sea. After analysis, military divers determined that it was a Sea Baby naval drone.

"The intervention team received approval to neutralize the detected object in accordance with current operational procedures, and at around 1:00 p.m. (local time - ed.), the naval drone was destroyed by a controlled detonation," the ministry added.

The Ministry of Defense believes that the Ukrainian drone posed a threat to shipping in the Black Sea.

The ministry also noted that since the start of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the Romanian Navy has continuously monitored its maritime and river areas of responsibility.

Attack on Russian tankers

Last week, sources of RBC-Ukraine reported that the Russian shadow fleet tankers Kairo and Virat were attacked in the Black Sea.

According to sources, upgraded Sea Baby naval drones were used to strike the tankers.

Videos circulating online show that the tankers suffered critical damage and were unable to continue sailing.

Following the attack, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that this marked another escalation of Russia’s war against Ukraine. According to him, the conflict now threatens navigational safety in the Black Sea.

He also said that such attacks "cannot be justified."
