Romania supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. This position is based on international law, stated the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"Romanian MFA strongly reiterates steadfast position in support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," the statement says.

The Ministry clarified that the country's position is based on international law, national interests, and long-term foreign policy.

Georgescu's scandalous statement

Earlier, Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu said that Ukraine is allegedly a fictional state.

According to him, after the conclusion of a peace treaty, there will be a division of territories, and Romania is supposed to return the territories that were part of the Romanian Kingdom.

Reacting to such statements, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhii Tykhyi emphasized that this is a manifestation of extreme disrespect for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.

In his turn, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, emphasized that pro-Russian politicians such as Georgescu are accelerating the discussion about the need to divide Russia.
