Romania scrambles fighter jets over Russian attack on Ukraine

On the night of Wednesday, October 2, the Russian Federation carried out a new drone attack on civilian objects and infrastructure in Ukraine near the river border with Romania, in Tulcea County, according to the Romanian Ministry of Defense.
Romania's National Military Command Center announced that after detecting drones heading toward Ukraine near Romanian airspace, alert measures were implemented for residents of Tulcea and Galați counties. At 2:41 AM, citizens were sent warnings through the RO-Alert system.
To monitor the situation, two Spanish F-18 aircraft took off from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base at 12:50 AM, and two Romanian F-16s were airborne around 2:40 AM from Borșa Air Base.
The Spanish and Romanian fighter jets completed their missions by 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM, respectively. During this time, Romania's radar surveillance system did not detect any violations of its airspace by drones.
The Romanian Ministry of National Defense continues to inform its allies about the situation and condemns Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilian objects as a gross violation of international law.
Night attack on Ukraine
On the evening of October 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported the launch and movement of strike drones. Shahed drones were detected in Poltava, Sumy, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Kirovohrad regions.
The nighttime attack on the Sumy region resulted in power outages for consumers.
Additionally, the border crossing point Orlivka - Isaccea in the Odesa region was temporarily closed due to the drone strikes.
