Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Robert "Madyar" Brovdi as Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, according to a presidential decree and a statement by Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

"Appoint Brovdi Robert Yosypovych as Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the decree states.

In a separate order, the head of state dismissed Vadym Sukharevskyi from the position of Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov, for his part, clarified that Sukharevskyi has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Operational Command East.

His task will be to modernize the command by implementing new approaches and reforms.

Who is "Madyar"?

Robert Brovdi, call sign "Madyar," is an officer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the commander of the aerial reconnaissance unit Birds of the Madyar. A native of Zakarpattia, he was a businessman before the full-scale war began.

Since 2022, he has been actively involved in combat operations on the eastern front, specializing in the use of drones for reconnaissance and strike missions.

His unit is known for its extensive use of drones in combat zones, particularly to detect and eliminate enemy targets behind the frontlines.

On May 8 of this year, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Madyar the title Hero of Ukraine.
