RF disinformation campaign targets Syrskyi, imposing Russian identity on him
The Russians are trying to impose an image of a "Soviet and Russian" person on the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to the Center for Countering Disinformation.
"For this purpose, propagandists actively seek out his relatives in Russia, 'family friends' who provide comments and spread them in the media space with the appropriate context," the press service writes.
The goal of the campaign is to discredit the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and undermine trust in him.
At the same time, it is important to remember:
- Syrskyi has long been part of the team of former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi;
- he led successful operations, including the liberation of the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions.
"They would have been impossible without a quality personnel, but a lot depends on the command. So, Syrskyi showed that he knows how to achieve results in the war against Russia," adds the press service.
- Currently, the team of the Commander-in-Chief consists of young commanders who have undergone further training;
- Support for the Russian campaign plays into the hands of enemy disinformation.
Appointment of Syrskyi as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces
On February 8, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the decision to dismiss Valerii Zaluzhnyi from the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Instead, Oleksandr Syrskyi was appointed as the new Commander-in-Chief. Rumors of Zaluzhnyi's resignation surfaced in late January 2024, although there were earlier reports on social media about his possible dismissal.
