Restrictions on strikes against Russia unfair but support cannot be risked - Zelenskyy
Ukraine considers it unfair that it is restricted from using Western weapons against Russian territory. At the same time, it cannot risk the support of its allies, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
"They (Russians - ed.) are just hitting people. Just like you saw in Kharkiv, just a construction hypermarket. They just killed children. You can't respond to them with anything. You already see the points, even from the intelligence you get maps and satellite images, you see where they are, but you can't answer them. I think it's unfair," the President says.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine does not risk the support of its partners and therefore does not use Western weapons against Russian territory. At the same time, Kyiv calls for enabling our soldiers to repel retaliatory strikes against Russian military personnel.
Ukraine seeks permission to strike Russia with Western weapons
Against the backdrop of the Russian offensive, Kyiv has intensified its appeal to NATO to authorize strikes on Russian territory with Western weapons. This primarily concerns the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, which provide Ukraine with long-range missiles. They could also be used to hit Russian troops located near the border.
Back in May, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Ukraine would decide for itself how to use the aid, but later the US denied his words.
At the same time, some countries do support expanding opportunities for Ukrainian soldiers.
