The footage was released by the unit on February 19.

During reconnaissance and assault operations in Kupiansk, Ukrainian forces identified several Russian soldiers hiding in a residential area, likely attempting to wait out active fighting and avoid direct engagement.

Infantry troops entered a building to check it and engaged in a firefight. The Russian soldiers attempted to resist, but Ukrainian forces acted quickly and in coordination, resulting in two Russian troops being killed.

"During the firefight, the occupiers tried to resist, but unsuccessfully. Russian troops hide, and our troops find and destroy them. Kupiansk was, is, and will be Ukraine," the 41st Separate Mechanized Brigade said.

The brigade stressed that clearing residential areas remains complex and dangerous because enemy forces can establish firing positions inside houses and basements, although such measures do not prevent detection.

What is known about situation in Kupiansk

Kupiansk and surrounding areas remain a hotspot on the Kharkiv axis. Ukrainian units continue reconnaissance and assault operations against Russian forces attempting to establish positions in the city and slow Ukrainian advances.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces recently repelled an enemy attack on Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. Defenders said the operation resulted in prisoners being taken, a civilian being evacuated, and intelligence being obtained that later enabled the destruction of a significant group of Russian troops.

The city remains strategically important for Russian forces for several reasons:

  • it is a major transport hub and key logistics foothold.

  • control of the area provides access toward deeper parts of Donetsk region.

  • Russian forces have repeatedly used Kupiansk as a launch point for attempts to advance further into Ukrainian territory.

Separately, a group of Russian soldiers in Kupiansk voluntarily surrendered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine using the "I Want to Live" chatbot initiative.
