Images showing damage in Sumy following an enemy attack with aerial bombs have appeared online. The photos show emergency responders working to eliminate the consequences of the strike, according to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

Ukraine’s emergency services said that on the evening of January 17, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on a residential area of the city of Sumy.

Rescuers inspected the site following the strike. According to preliminary information, three women and a seven-year-old child were injured in the attack.

"Employees of the State Emergency Service provided the victims with the necessary assistance and handed them over to medical workers," the statement said.

Preliminary reports indicate that 15 residential buildings were damaged in Sumy as a result of the guided aerial bomb strikes.

Emergency responders also released footage from the city after the attack, showing State Emergency Service of Ukraine personnel working at the scene.

Sumy and surrounding areas strike

Earlier, Head of the Sumy City Military Administration Serhii Kryvosheienko reported that Russian forces struck Sumy and its suburbs on the evening of January 17. At the time, casualties were already reported, along with damage to households and utility networks. Following the attack, parts of the Sumy region were left without electricity, gas, and water.

Emergency and utility services are working to repair the damage and restore gas, power, and water supplies to affected homes.

There were also reports of Shahed drone attacks on the Sumy region on January 17.
