Red-level magnetic storm to hit Earth: How to protect your health
A powerful magnetic storm covered the planet at the beginning of July. The prolonged red-level magnetic storm lasted almost a week, and on July 4-5, it reached its highest level - a K-index 9. However, the magnetosphere will not be calm over the weekend, July 6-7.
When to expect powerful magnetic storms and how to protect your health read in the article below.
What's a magnetic storm
Regular flares and explosions on the Sun lead to the release of a large amount of solar energy into space, which consists of charged particles (protons and electrons).
They can move quickly through space, including towards Earth. When they reach the magnetosphere of our planet, geomagnetic activity occurs, which scientists call magnetic or solar storms.
All storms have a classification, where a K-index from 1 to 3 is a weak storm, from 4 to 5 is moderate. All storms above a K-index 5 are red-level storms, the effects of which people feel.
During storms with a K-index of 7-9, there can be malfunctions in technology, satellites, radio frequencies, GPRS, and telecommunication towers. And also - northern lights. On such days, people's well-being deteriorates.

What's known about upcoming magnetic storm
A powerful magnetic storm swept across the Earth on July 4-5, reaching a K-index 9. The effects of such a powerful storm may be felt for several more days.
According to data from satellite systems NOAA, TESIS, and international meteorological laboratories around the world, high solar activity is expected on the weekend of July 6-7, as well as at the beginning of the week, July 8-9, which will decline only in the evening of July 10.
The next storm will cover the Earth from July 11 to 15, and this storm will rage simultaneously with intense heat throughout Europe.
How magnetic storms affect people
Many studies have been conducted on the impact of magnetic storms on human life. Many confirm the correlation between solar flares, geomagnetic activity, and the deterioration of people's well-being.
What people most often complain about:
- Headache, migraine
- Dizziness
- Weakness
- Fatigue
- Daytime sleepiness
- Insomnia at night
- Concentration disorders
- Brain fog
- Blood pressure fluctuations
- Cardiovascular problems
- Mood deterioration
- Anxiety
- Irritability
- Aggression
- Exacerbation of chronic diseases
What can help protect your body
On days of magnetic storms, it is worth paying more attention to your health. Doctors usually give general recommendations that will help reduce the impact and support the body.
Basic tips:
- Maintain a normal daily routine
- Sleep 7 to 9 hours
- Do morning exercises, take a contrast shower
- Eat well
- Drink enough water
- Do not overconsume coffee, energy drinks, alcohol, cigarettes, spicy and unhealthy food
- Ventilate the room
- Walk in the fresh air
- Reduce physical and psycho-emotional stress
- Be sure to consult a doctor or seek help if necessary
