A powerful geomagnetic storm will cover Earth in the coming hours and will last for several days. At its peak, it will reach a dangerous red level and may cause a deterioration in well-being for many people around the world.

RBC-Ukraine reports on the schedule of dangerous dates from April 10 to 13 and how to protect your body.

Geomagnetic storm calendar

According to the latest sunspot monitoring data, the situation in the coming days will be as follows:

April 10 (Friday). A powerful red-level geomagnetic storm (K-index 6) began overnight. It will start to subside only in the evening, but the level will still remain high (K-index 5). Such storms can cause discomfort in many people.

April 11 (Saturday). Activity will remain at level 5 (K-index 5). This is a red-level storm. Severe headaches, sudden weakness, and spikes in blood pressure are possible.

April 12 (Sunday). The tension will gradually decrease, but activity will remain at level 4. The body may still feel the effects of the storm, including increased fatigue and apathy.

April 13 (Monday). The geomagnetic field returns to normal. A weak magnetic storm at level 3 is expected, which poses no threat to most people.

What is a geomagnetic storm

A geomagnetic storm is a reaction of Earth’s magnetic field to powerful energy emissions from the Sun. When a strong solar flare or coronal mass ejection occurs, charged particles reach our planet and interact with the magnetosphere.

This can cause:

  • Fluctuations in the geomagnetic field
  • Disruptions in satellite operations
  • Communication problems
  • Bright auroras

Sometimes such phenomena also affect people’s well-being, especially those sensitive to weather changes.

How geomagnetic storms affect humans

Although the impact of geomagnetic storms on the human body is still debated in the scientific community, thousands of weather-sensitive people report similar symptoms each time. People with cardiovascular diseases and chronic conditions are most affected.

Most common symptoms:

  • Sudden headaches and migraines
  • Blood pressure spikes
  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Sleep disturbances (insomnia or excessive drowsiness)
  • General weakness, apathy, and fatigue

Most affected groups:

  • Weather-sensitive individuals
  • People with cardiovascular diseases
  • Elderly people and pregnant women
  • Those suffering from chronic fatigue or constant stress

How to get through dangerous days: doctors’ advice

To minimize the impact of solar activity on your health, it’s important to adjust your routine and diet in advance.

What to do:

  • Maintain proper hydration. Drink water and herbal teas (mint or lemon balm), and avoid excessive coffee and energy drinks.
  • Watch your diet. Avoid fatty, spicy, and overly salty foods. Choose vegetables and light meals.
  • Limit alcohol and smoking. These habits add extra strain on the heart.
  • Get more rest. Aim for at least 7–8 hours of sleep and avoid emotional stress.
  • Spend time outdoors. Light walks help oxygenate the blood, but avoid intense physical activity during peak days.
