President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes there is now a real chance to achieve peace with Russia, but such peace must be lasting, the head of the Ukrainian state said.

According to Zelenskyy, he had a telephone conversation with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.

The president informed the crown prince about contacts with partners and diplomatic efforts to end the war. Communication with leaders continues around the clock.

"Now is the moment when there is a real chance to achieve peace. But peace must be fair and lasting, and security must be guaranteed. This is important not only for Ukraine – for every European country," Zelenskyy emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia see a danger in any decisions that may be made without Ukraine and Europe. Zelenskyy said that Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud expressed clear support for this position and declared readiness to make efforts for peace. The teams of Ukraine and Saudi Arabia will coordinate all necessary efforts.

The topic of joint projects was also raised during the talks, which, as the Ukrainian president noted, "will give both countries more strength."

Trump and Putin meeting

This Friday, August 15, US President Donald Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. They are expected to discuss a settlement of Russia's war against Ukraine.

Bloomberg, citing sources, reported that American and Russian officials are preparing a leader-level agreement on freezing the war.

In particular, the agreement may stipulate that Russia will cease hostilities in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
