Ukrainian forces have destroyed a rare Russian Forpost-R drone capable of carrying guided aerial bombs. The UAV was intercepted over Russia's Kursk region, according to a Telegram post by Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces Robert "Madyar" Brovdi.

According to Brovdi, the Forpost-R was detected and destroyed over Russia's Kursk region on July 27.

The operation was carried out by pilots from the Topota Battalion of the 414th Separate Brigade, known as Ptahy Madyara (Madyar's Birds). The target was intercepted using a Ukrainian Chaklun-KM drone, which struck the UAV at an altitude of 4,300 meters.

"We tracked down and shot down a Forpost-R — a heavy, high-value strike and reconnaissance UAV capable of carrying guided munitions," the commander of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces said.

What makes the Forpost-R special

According to Brovdi, the Forpost-R is capable of carrying KAB-20 guided aerial bombs equipped with laser guidance.

The commander noted that this was only the sixth confirmed destruction of a Forpost-R since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion and the second credited to the 414th Separate Brigade, Madyar's Birds. The brigade shot down its first Forpost-R in April 2025.

As previously reported, fighters from the Unmanned Systems Department of Ukraine's Defense Intelligence (HUR) conducted an operation in Russian-occupied Crimea on the night of July 26. During the mission, they located a Russian S-400 Triumf air defense system in a combat position and struck it.

According to HUR, the attack destroyed a launcher and a 96L6 radar station used to detect aerial targets and integrated into the S-400 system.
