Qatar has been forced to pause liquefied natural gas (LNG) production for several weeks. Returning to normal production levels will take about a month, Reuters reports.

Sources told the outlet that after the main plant in Ras Laffan was shut down on Wednesday, Qatar will not be able to resume LNG production for at least two weeks. These are initial estimates.

Reuters sources added that even after the plant restarts, it will take at least another two weeks to reach full capacity.

Strikes on QatarEnergy

On March 2, Iranian drones struck QatarEnergy facilities in the cities of Ras Laffan and Mesaieed, leading to a complete halt in liquefied natural gas (LNG) production.

According to the Qatari Ministry of Defense, each facility was hit by a single drone.

Due to the military threat and the risk to infrastructure, the management of the Qatari energy giant officially announced the suspension of LNG production and all associated products.

Earlier, on March 2, Bloomberg reported that Qatar is running out of missiles for its air defense systems — current stockpiles would last only four days at the present rate of use.

Against this backdrop, authorities in Qatar and the UAE are trying to persuade US President Donald Trump not to escalate into a prolonged war with Iran, as the Gulf countries face enormous losses.
