Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning a visit to Beijing next week, on May 20, the South China Morning Post reports.

Visit of Kremlin chief will take place just a few days after the summit between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump.

It is noted that Putin will stay in China for only one day. The publication writes that his visit is unlikely to be as lavish and carefully planned in detail as Trump's.

Sources said the upcoming visit of the Russian president is part of routine contacts between Moscow and Beijing.

This case will become first time when China hosts leaders of two states in the same month.

Publication notes that this visit points to Beijing's efforts to manage ties with Moscow and Washington and position itself as a key state in realities where the world order is becoming increasingly fragmented.

On Thursday, May 14, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the timing of Putin's visit to China had been determined, but did not name the exact date.

The previous visit of the Russian president to China took place in late August - early September 2025.

Donald Trump arrived in China on May 13 for the first time in nine years. A large business delegation also arrived in Beijing together with American leaders, including heads of Apple, Nvidia, and Tesla.

During his visit to China, Trump stated that Beijing would buy 200 Boeing aircraft from the US. In addition, Americans allowed the sale of powerful AI video cards from the Nvidia company.
