Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with US President Donald Trump, the Russian state news agency TASS informs.

Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov said the conversation lasted 50 minutes and was "useful."

During the call, Putin congratulated Trump on his birthday.

He also reiterated that Russia remains open to talks with Ukraine after June 22.

Trump, for his part, once again expressed interest in ending the war in Ukraine as soon as possible.

Earlier in the day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Putin would ultimately deceive Trump about his intentions to end the war.

This spring, Trump was finally convinced that Putin was "tapping him alone." After several waves of heavy attacks on Ukraine, the US president even said that Putin "had gone absolutely crazy."

French President Emmanuel Macron also noted that, in his opinion, Trump understood that Russian President Vladimir Putin was deceiving him.
