Putin’s team reveals why meeting with Trump happen in Alaska

Russia and the US are close neighbors. That is why the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place in Alaska, states Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov, according to TASS.
“Russia and the US are close neighbors, so it is quite logical that the leaders’ summit will be held in Alaska,” Ushakov said.
According to him, this is also related to the fact that Russia’s and the US’s economic interests intersect in Alaska and the Arctic.
Ushakov stated that during the meeting in Alaska, Putin and Trump will focus on discussing options for achieving a long-term resolution to the war in Ukraine.
Trump invited to Moscow
At the same time, Ushakov said that after the negotiations in Alaska, Trump is expected in Moscow and that the US president has allegedly already received an invitation.
“Moscow and Washington will dedicate the coming days to active and intense work on finalizing the details of the meeting in Alaska; this will be a challenging process,” Ushakov said.
Trump-Putin meeting
Recently, several media outlets began reporting about a possible meeting between Trump and Putin soon. This was later confirmed by the White House.
Trump himself said that his meeting with Putin will take place in a popular location.
“We start off with Russia and we'll announce a location. I think the location will be a very uh popular one for a lot of reasons, but we'll be announcing that a little bit later. I just don't want to do it now because of the importance of what we just did,” Trump said.
Today, Trump announced that his meeting with Putin will take place on August 15, with Alaska chosen as the location.
Alaska once belonged to the Russian Empire and was sold by Russia to the US in 1867 for $7.2 million in gold.
