Russian President’s protection team for Alaska meeting uncovered

During the visit to Alaska, Vladimir Putin’s security will be guaranteed by his personal guards together with the US Secret Service, according to an interview with former senior US Secret Service agent Robert McDonald.
Robert McDonald stated that during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Alaska, his security will be jointly ensured by Putin’s personal guards and the US Secret Service.
According to him, this practice is standard, and political differences between countries do not affect it.
McDonald, who has over 20 years of experience in the US Secret Service and coordinated security measures at major international summits (including APEC 2011 and G8 2012), noted that law enforcement agencies from different countries set politics aside in such situations. They work as professionals, doing everything possible to fully protect their leaders.
As an example, he mentioned the annual UN General Assembly session in New York, where security teams from dozens of countries, including political opponents of the US, cooperate smoothly and efficiently.
The former agent also shared his positive experience cooperating with Russian colleagues during visits by George W. Bush, emphasizing their professionalism. Currently, McDonald teaches criminal law at the University of New Haven.
Trump-Putin meeting on August 15
The meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is scheduled for Friday, August 15, at the joint military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. Organizers note that choosing the location for this meeting was challenging.
Trump stated that during the talks, he intends to discuss ways to end Russia’s war against Ukraine and urge Putin to halt the hostilities.
He also expressed hope to reach an agreement with Putin on a territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia, but emphasized that the final decision regarding Ukraine must be made directly by Kyiv and Moscow.
Against this backdrop, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine will not hand over Donbas to Russia.
It has also been announced that ahead of the meeting with Putin, Trump will hold an online conversation with Zelenskyy and other European leaders.
