An aide to Russian President Vladimir Medinsky accused Ukraine of spreading fake news after the transfer of Russian soldiers' bodies to Ukraine. He compared it to another case of Soviet propaganda manipulation, stated Medinsky, according to TASS.

Medinsky commented on a statement by Ukraine's Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko. Earlier, Klymenko said that Russia handed over the body of a Russian soldier as part of a prisoner exchange. A passport was found with the body, identifying the deceased as Aleksandr Viktorovich Bugayev.

Medinsky drew a "historical parallel" and referred to Soviet propaganda fabrications. He claimed that in 1940, "Joseph Goebbels' propagandists" planted documents and fresh newspapers with the bodies of Polish officers to blame the NKVD for their execution. According to Medinsky, Nazi intelligence staged the crime to discredit the USSR.

"To dig up a corpse with fresh documents and a newspaper with a date confirming the execution, practically undecomposed after all these years," he said.

He drew an analogy to the current situation, accusing Ukraine of "spreading throughout Eastern Europe" the claim that among the 6,000 bodies handed over in the exchange, there were many Russian soldiers, disguised in Ukrainian military uniforms.

"This is done to sway public opinion in Ukraine and create a false impression… about the proportion of losses," Medinsky added.

The killing of Polish officers

It is important to note that the mass murder of about 22,000 Polish citizens (including officers) in Katyn, Kharkiv, Kalinin, and other locations was carried out by the NKVD under an order from the USSR Politburo dated March 5, 1940. This was officially acknowledged by Russia in 1990, and in 2010, the Russian State Duma confirmed the guilt of the Stalinist regime.

International research, including German, Polish, American, and Russian studies, as well as archival documents from the USSR clearly prove that it was not the Nazis, but the NKVD who committed the mass murder. Bullet traces, ammunition types, documents, and other evidence point directly to the Soviet authorities.

By the way, Russia has repeatedly handed over bodies of its soldiers to Ukraine disguised as Ukrainian troops. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned about this earlier.
