An aide to Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Medinsky, claims he held a separate meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov in Istanbul, TASS reports.

"There was a meeting. It played an important role in preparing the general negotiation session," Medinsky said.

It is worth noting that Medinsky leads the Russian delegation, while Umerov heads the Ukrainian side.

Ukraine-Russia talks

On June 2, the second round of peace talks between Ukrainian and Russian delegations took place in Istanbul.

As in the first round, Russia continues to reject an unconditional ceasefire with Ukraine.

However, the delegations managed to agree on a new major prisoner exchange. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the exchange will take place in a 1000 for 1000 format.

Additionally, according to the President, the countries may conduct another exchange in the 200 for 200 format.
