Vladimir Putin claimed that the civilian government in Ukraine is allegedly illegitimate due to the lack of presidential elections. Therefore, for so-called "peace," he is effectively demanding that elections be held, according to Russian media.

During a conversation with submarine sailors of the nuclear-powered cruiser Arkhangelsk, Putin "proposed" introducing temporary governance in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN and several countries to hold elections. This, he claimed, would allow discussions about peace.

"In principle, of course, it would be possible to discuss the possibility of introducing temporary governance in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN, the US, with European countries, and, of course, with our partners and friends, to conduct democratic elections, to bring to power a functional government that enjoys the trust of the people, and then begin peace talks with them," Putin said.

According to him, with this government, it would be possible to sign "legitimate documents that will be recognized worldwide and reliable."

"Russia does not understand who to sign anything with in Ukraine, since tomorrow other leaders will come," he explained.

Russian president also continued his propaganda rhetoric, claiming that "neo-Nazi formations" like Azov have a large influence and are essentially starting to control Ukraine.

Elections in Ukraine

Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that martial law in the country will be lifted only after the war ends. Only after that will elections be held according to the law.

"If all this is done, then after preparing this plan, there will in any case be a phased implementation leading to the end of the war. After the war ends, martial law will be lifted. And after martial law is lifted, elections will be held by Ukrainian law. No one will deliberately postpone anything," the head of state explained.
