Russian President Vladimir Putin is "possibly the most serious war criminal of our time," German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said in an interview with Sat.1, according to n-tv.

"He (Putin – ed.) is a war criminal. He is possibly the most serious war criminal of our time, which we are now witnessing on a large scale," Merz said.

He noted that "we are simply obliged to clearly know how to deal with war criminals."

"There is no room for leniency here," the German Chancellor emphasized.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, at the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing on September 4, will propose Geneva as the venue for negotiations on a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

"Geneva would be a suitable place for concluding a ceasefire agreement. Security guarantees will play a certain role," Merz said during a joint press conference with Swiss President Karin Keller-Sutter.

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin is a predator. He will not stop at Ukraine and is already attacking European countries.
