Putin orders buffer zone on border with Ukraine

Russian troops have begun implementing a plan to create a so-called security buffer zone along the border with Ukraine, said Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to TASS.
"A decision has been made to establish a security buffer zone along the border between Russia and Ukraine," declared the Russian leader.
According to him, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have already begun carrying out this task.
Buffer zone in Ukraine
This is not Putin’s first statement regarding the creation of such a zone in Ukraine. Just last year, Putin threatened to establish a buffer zone along the border with Ukraine up to 150 kilometers wide. At that time, however, he referred to it as a sanitary zone.
Putin also emphasized that he wanted to create a so-called demilitarized zone where no opposing forces would be present.
Moreover, even earlier, in 2023, the Russian leader stated that if strikes on Russian territory continued, Russia would have to consider the issue of creating a sanitary zone on Ukrainian territory to prevent the Armed Forces of Ukraine from reaching into Russian territory.
