Russian leader Vladimir Putin has supported the idea of creating regional volunteer units to protect particularly dangerous and critically important facilities on Russian territory, according to Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoygu.

Shoygu stated that this initiative was proposed by the leadership of the Nizhny Novgorod region, which has experienced frequent Ukrainian drone raids in recent months.

At the same time, the Secretary of the Security Council did not provide details on the composition or formation mechanism of the proposed units.

Ukraine’s strikes on Russia

As is known, in response to Russian aggression, Ukraine has begun striking targets on Russian territory. The main targets include military facilities, ammunition depots, oil bases, and other infrastructure supporting the war against Ukraine.

These operations are carried out to weaken the enemy’s capabilities and reduce its ability to attack Ukrainian cities.

Ukrainian drones increasingly hit targets deep in Russian rear areas, including objects in the energy sector.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s response to Russia’s actions is proportional and justified.

He emphasized that Ukraine has repeatedly proposed a ceasefire and seeks peace, but responds with force when its appeals are ignored.

It should be recalled that in October, Russia reported a nighttime attack on an energy facility in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Satellite images captured a fire at one of the region’s key energy hubs.
