Putin criticizes Trump for having inflated expectations of Russia

Russian leader Vladimir Putin indirectly responded to criticism from US President Donald Trump, saying he has "inflated expectations", the BBC Russian Service reports.
During a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, the Kremlin leader did not mention Donald Trump by name but indirectly addressed his comments about being disappointed.
"As for any disappointments from anyone, all disappointments arise from inflated expectations — this is a well-known general rule," Putin said.
He added that serious conversations should be held "not in public, but in the quiet of the negotiation process."
Trump’s statements
After his latest phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump repeatedly expressed disappointment, emphasizing that the Kremlin leader shows no willingness to end the war against Ukraine.
Trump also stated several times that Ukraine is like the apple of Putin’s eye.
For his part, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that Trump becomes frustrated when, after talks with Putin, he sees Russia once again attacking and destroying peaceful Ukrainian cities.
Trump threatened Russia with 100% secondary tariffs. If the US president fulfills his promise, these measures are set to take effect after August 8.
