Protests in Georgia: Protesters set up barricades, fire in parliament building
In the Georgian capital of Tbilisi, a large number of people again protested at the parliament building. A fire broke out in one of the offices, while the protesters were building barricades, reports the Caucasian Knot.
According to the publication, Georgians began to build barricades near the Georgian parliament building. Videos on Telegram channels and media outlets show protesters carrying large fragments of fences, and using benches and stands.
Telegram channels also published a video showing a fire in one of the offices of the parliament building. According to preliminary data, a pyrotechnic device used by protesters has flown in.
In addition, people also burned an effigy of the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, at the entrance to the Georgian parliament building.
Meanwhile, special forces and other police units have already been mobilized on Freedom Square, as well as on Chichinadze and April 9 streets adjacent to the parliament.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, in turn, warned the protesters that police forces were on alert. Such warnings are usually issued before the start of the dispersal of protesters.
The US State Department has announced that America has suspended its strategic partnership with Georgia. This was followed by the government's refusal to negotiate accession to the EU, as well as the violent dispersal of demonstrators.
