Protect your pancreas: Foods that can cause damage and inflammation Foods that harm the pancreas (photo: Freepik)

The pancreas in the human body is responsible for producing many vital enzymes. However, certain harmful foods can damage it and lead to malfunction, according to Ukrainian trainer Yuriy Popko.

What you need to know about pancreas

The pancreas is an organ that produces enzymes for digesting food. These enzymes are primarily needed to process carbohydrates.

If the body reacts poorly to raw vegetables and fruits, a person will immediately experience bloating, gas, and discomfort.

Enzymes are essentially proteins produced by our body to digest food.

The cause of pancreatic inflammation is acute and chronic pancreatitis, which has become very common and ranks third among abdominal diseases requiring surgery.

Harmful foods

Alcohol
Alcohol stimulates the active production of pancreatic enzymes.

When we frequently consume alcohol in large quantities, the pancreas produces many enzymes, increasing intracellular pressure. Instead of digesting food, these enzymes return to the pancreas, destroying its cells and the organ itself.

These enzymes are highly active, and during inflammation, they damage the pancreas. This disrupts the systematic release of enzymes, leading to pain in the left upper abdomen that radiates to the front or back of the spine and causes diarrhea.

Fried food
People with pancreatic issues are often advised to minimize these foods and cooking methods.

This includes burnt sugar (caramelized), bacon, and pork kebabs. These foods damage the body's protein molecules.

Sugar
The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that regulates blood glucose levels (glucose is formed from all carbohydrate-containing foods).

Insulin helps glucose enter our cells like a key, opening a door allowing us to get energy from glucose.

When our diet is high in sugar, we constantly stimulate insulin production in large quantities. This puts stress on the pancreas, leading to inflammation of the organ and the body.

Excess insulin leads to weight gain (especially with excess calories). It also causes polycystic ovary syndrome, cataracts, and lung problems.

Excess sugar in the body leads to the formation of visceral fat (which accumulates on internal organs and is dangerous). This, in turn, leads to a number of other ailments, increasing the risk of hypertension, diabetes, heart and vascular diseases, and fatty liver disease.

Refined carbohydrates

This includes baked goods, sweets, bread, and pasta. Since these often contain sugar, carcinogens, and preservatives, they cause spikes in sugar and insulin levels.

This results in hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, and eventually type 2 diabetes. This can lead to skin breakouts and hair loss.
