Products linked to breast cancer identified
Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women. There are many variants of the disease, most of which are treatable with early diagnosis. However, certain foods may promote the development of this illness. Nutritionist Oksana Skytalinska reports on which foods contribute to tumor formation.
Foods that may promote tumor development
High-glycemic foods
Consuming sugar, sweets, and sugary drinks leads to elevated insulin levels, activating insulin receptors in breast tissue and creating conditions for the growth of altered cells. It is recommended to replace sweets with berries.
Excess saturated fats
While saturated fats can be beneficial, their excess contributes to the development of hormone-dependent tumors. It is advisable to limit the consumption of fatty meats and avoid products like salami.
Trans fats
These fats are found in many store-bought sweets and snacks, such as chocolate bars, frosting, candies, and cookies. They increase inflammation and can lead to insulin resistance.
Alcohol abuse
Although red wine contains beneficial compounds like resveratrol, their benefits do not outweigh the harm that alcohol can cause to breast tissue.
Processed meats
Sausages and deli meats contain carcinogenic compounds, such as heterocyclic amines and nitrosamines, which can promote cancer development.
Factors contributing to tumor formation
Obesity
This condition creates a favorable environment for the development of breast cancer due to chronic inflammation. Fat cells produce inflammatory molecules that suppress the immune system, making it less capable of fighting cancer cells. Hypoxia and the accumulation of toxins in fat tissue also contribute to tumor development.
Stress
Stressful situations and negative emotions lead to increased cortisol production, disrupting the interaction between the nervous and endocrine systems and suppressing the immune response.
Nutritional prevention of breast cancer
Omega-3 fatty acids
Fatty fish, fish oil, seafood, flaxseeds, nuts, and eggs (yolks) have anti-inflammatory effects.
Polyphenols
Berries (viburnum, rowan, blueberries, currants) and fruits (grapefruit, apple peels) contain fiber and pigments that protect breast cell DNA from damage.
Plant-based protein
Foods such as lentils, beans, green beans, and peas are rich in polyphenols and soluble fiber while containing less saturated fat.
Broccoli sprouts
Half a cup of broccoli sprouts increases the number of stem cells, helping prevent mutations and cancer development.
Isothiocyanates
All types of cabbage, zucchini, arugula, and radish possess anti-mutagenic properties.
Carotenoids and vitamin C
These compounds are associated with a reduced risk of cancer due to their antioxidant properties, ability to inhibit cell growth, and support for hormonal balance.
