There is a chance for a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. The leaders of Ukraine and the United States have expressed their readiness to move toward such a step if Russia takes appropriate actions, states the First Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Sergiy Kyslytsya, according to the national telethon live broadcast.

Ceasefire monitoring

"The rounds of negotiations that have already taken place (meetings of the delegations of Ukraine, Russia, and the United States – ed.) indicate that we are at a stage where the military group has completed 90% of its work. We have reached the point where the remaining work cannot be done because political decisions are required," Kyslytsya said.

According to him, completing the work of the military group may require a few more meetings. These will take place only if Ukraine and Russia make a political decision on a ceasefire.

He clarified that during the work of the military group, "all the main elements of the architecture for monitoring and verifying violations of the ceasefire were adopted."

Negotiations between Zelenskyy and Trump

Separately, Kyslytsya emphasized that a political decision on a ceasefire requires a meeting between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States at the leaders’ level. Only then will the work of the military group be effective.

"I believe there is a chance. Yesterday (February 25 – ed.) there was a very positive, constructive conversation between the two presidents – President Zelenskyy and President Trump – and I personally heard, being present during this conversation, that both sides are ready, provided there are adequate actions from the Russian side, for us to see positive developments in the near future," he added.
