Ukraine insists on the deployment of a European military contingent closer to the front line in the event of a possible cessation of hostilities. Such a presence is being considered as a deterrent factor and an additional security guarantee for the country, according to a report by Agence France-Presse.

Deployment of troops near the front line

The President of Ukraine said that Kyiv would like to see foreign troops positioned closer to the front line after a halt in hostilities.

According to the head of state, this is not about replacing Ukrainian forces but about a joint presence of partners to strengthen security and prevent renewed aggression.

Purpose of the European contingent’s presence

Ukraine expects that a contingent from European countries will become an element of security guarantees.

“We would like to see the contingent closer to the front line. Of course, no one wants to stand on the first line, and of course, Ukrainians would like our partners to stand with us on the front line,” the president emphasized.

Such a deployment should act as a deterrent, providing additional protection for the country and its citizens.

International security guarantees

Previously, Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly emphasized the need for clear international guarantees to prevent renewed aggression after the end of the active phase of the war.

The presence of foreign forces is considered part of a comprehensive security strategy that ensures long-term stability at the front and protects Ukraine’s national interests.

Ukrainian forces reportedly liberated about 300 square kilometers of territory in the southern sector of the front, pushing back Russian forces.

The president also stated that Ukraine is ready to discuss real compromises with the US, but will not accept decisions that threaten its independence and sovereignty. He stressed that Kyiv has no intention of accepting ultimatum-style demands from Russia, which it considers an aggressor party.
