Preparing for war? Germany’s Interior Ministry proposes 'crisis training' for schoolchildren

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Germany has called for the preparation of schoolchildren and students for crises and war. It proposes to introduce relevant training, Handelsblatt reports.
According to the media resource, a Russian attack on NATO territory is considered a realistic scenario, which is why the Ministry of Internal Affairs advises citizens to stock up on essential items.
"Given the recent events in the security sphere, more attention should be paid to civil defense, including in school education," said a ministry representative in an interview with Handelsblatt.
In addition, a security policy expert from the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Roderich Kiesewetter suggests conducting crisis training for schoolchildren to practice actions in emergency situations.
"It is also necessary to introduce basic training on behavior in emergencies. This would also be wise and far-sighted in terms of public works," Kiesewetter added.
Risk of NATO and Russia war
The risk of direct military conflict between NATO and Russia remains a serious geopolitical threat amid Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. NATO consistently supports Ukraine with weapons, intelligence, and financial aid, but avoids direct participation in combat to prevent escalation into a war between nuclear powers.
Despite Russian threats, the alliance remains united in its stance on deterring Russia and protecting its members.
Recently, Lithuania's President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Russia may launch a new attack in a few years. In his opinion, Lithuania has four to five years to prepare.
